Future Projects of BPEF

  1. Continuation of Children Sight Conservation Program

    Objectives:The objective of the sight conservation program is to protect, preserve and restore sight of children through following activities:

    1. School based eye care program
      1. Training primary school teachers to screen school children for visual defects
      2. Establishing Vision clubs in secondary schools to train senior students as Little Optometrists.
      3. Professional eye care services including refraction services by trained optometrists/Ophthalmic Assistants and ophthalmologists
      4. Eye Health Promotion, nutrition supplement and de-worming in schools in partnership with national programs
    2. Community based eye care Program
      1. Dedicated children’s eye camps
      2. Training of FCHV and orientation of health facility staff
      3. Eye Health Promotion in the community
    3. Capacity building of health system to provide eye care for children
    4. Capacity building of health system to provide eye care for children
  2. Information Education Communication (IEC) material development
    1. Guidelines for parents of newly diagnosed BVI children
    2. Guidebook for resource teachers in integrated/ inclusive schools

  4. Support to inclusive schools for blind and vision impaired children

    20 inclusive schools for the education of BVI children in Western Region of Nepal are being supported by a Rotary funded project. The schools will be provided with Braille typewriter and other teaching learning materials to improve the quality of education these children are receiving. First phase of the program was held in Nepalgunj in June 2012. Twelve teachers from nine project districts participated in a week long refresher training wherein they were handed over with the educational materials for their schools. Another phase has been scheduled for October 2012 in Dhangadhi where teachers from six districts will participate.
